Introduction to MIG Welding

Registration is closed for this event

No prior experience needed.  Students will learn how to MIG weld in the Park High School metal shop.  Students will learn to weld small simple assemblies with mild steel in a safe environment.

MIG (Metal Inert Gas) welding is the most common and easiest welding process to learn, and can be used to make a wide variety of useful and/or decorative items.  Though MIG welding can be used to join a variety of metals, this class will focus on steel.  Equipment maintenance and troubleshooting will also be covered, as they are an essential part of learning to weld.  Additionally, basic metal shop equipment (saws, grinders, drills, etc.) will be discussed.

The class is limited to 10 students.

Instructor(s)

Taught to weld at a very early age by his uncle/mentor, Chris Perkins has taken the science of metallurgy by the horns and hasn’t looked back since. After discovering his knack and zeal for metalwork, Chris has worked most of his adult life in the field and become a master welder and blacksmith. He is certified in 5 styles of welding. He constructed his own venturey style forge that he uses in his home blacksmith shop. By day, Chris works for a company in Belgrade building the largest tow trucks and trailers in the world. As a side operation, Chris collaborates with architects and artists to weld and blacksmith functional works of art for homes and businesses. Chris wishes to share his life-long passion with anyone who possesses the urge to learn! When he’s not heating and molding steel to his will, Chris can mostly be found exploring the great outdoors in true Montana-style: On a boat, on a river, with a brew.
